Dementia Care

Living with dementia brings uncertainty and change. But in the right environment, with gentle support and familiar faces, life can continue with dignity, comfort and moments of real joy.

At Abafields, we care for people in the early stages of dementia—those who need help and reassurance, but who can still enjoy conversation, activities and connection with others.

Dementia Care

What is dementia care?

Dementia care is support for people whose memory, thinking or ability to manage daily tasks has been affected by conditions like Alzheimer's disease or vascular dementia.

At Abafields, we focus on early-stage dementia care. This means we support people who:

  • May forget recent conversations or misplace things more often
  • Sometimes feel confused about time or familiar places
  • Need gentle prompts with washing, dressing or meals
  • Still enjoy socialising, activities and being part of a community

We support people in the earlier stages of dementia with personalised care, familiar routines and a calm, homely environment where they feel understood and reassured.

Dementia Care

Our Approach

Dementia care at Abafields is about seeing the person behind the diagnosis and creating days that feel calm, familiar and meaningful. Our experienced team understands how to recognise uncertainty, gently guide someone through moments of confusion and respond with patience and reassurance.

We focus on simple routines that bring comfort and stability. Mealtimes happen at the same time each day, familiar staff provide continuity, and activities connect to people’s memories and interests such as music, reminiscence, gardening and baking.

Our home is designed to feel welcoming and easy to navigate, with clear spaces and both communal and quiet areas. Most importantly, we give people time to settle, to talk and to feel safe, meeting them where they are each day with kindness and understanding.

Dementia Care

The important questions

What is dementia care?

Dementia care is specialist support for people whose memory, thinking or daily abilities have been affected by dementia. At Abafields, we focus on early-stage care—helping people maintain independence and dignity in a calm, structured environment where they feel known and safe.

Who is dementia care for?

Dementia care at Abafields is for people living with mild to moderate dementia who need daily support, reassurance and a stable routine. It's for those who benefit from companionship and gentle prompts, but who don't require complex nursing or secure dementia units.

When is dementia care needed?

Dementia care becomes necessary when someone can no longer safely manage at home—perhaps they're forgetting meals, becoming isolated or anxious, or need more support than family can provide. It's also about quality of life: a place where routine, activity and social connection help someone feel settled rather than lost.

What funding and support is available for dementia care

Dementia care can be funded privately, through local authority support, or via NHS Continuing Healthcare if eligible. We'll explain your options clearly and help you understand what's available. The process can feel overwhelming, but we'll guide you through it step by step.
