Residential Care

The important questions

What is residential care?

Residential care provides daily support for older people who can no longer safely manage at home. This includes help with washing, dressing, meals and medication, delivered in a comfortable, caring environment. It's for people who need regular assistance but not constant nursing or medical intervention.

Who is residential care for?

Residential care at Abafields is for older people (aged 65+) who find daily living increasingly difficult or unsafe. This might include people who've had falls, struggle with self-care, feel isolated at home, or simply need the structure, company and support that a care home provides.

When is residential care needed?

Residential care becomes necessary when someone can no longer safely or comfortably manage at home—perhaps they're not eating properly, personal hygiene is declining, or they're becoming withdrawn and lonely. It's also about quality of life: sometimes, the right environment with the right support helps someone flourish again.

What funding and support is available for residential care?

Residential care can be funded privately (self-funded), through local authority support if eligible, or a combination of both (top-up fees). We'll explain your options clearly and help you understand the process. Funding can feel complicated, but we'll guide you through it step by step.
