FAQs

Who are Abafields?

Abafields is a small, independent residential care home in Bolton, caring for up to 35 older people in a warm, family-like environment. We've been established for many years, with many of our team staying for 15+ years because of the close-knit, caring culture we've built.

We're not part of a chain or corporate group—we're locally rooted, independently run, and focused entirely on providing person-centred care where residents are known deeply as individuals, not just looked after as patients.

Our Victorian home overlooks a peaceful park and offers residential care, dementia care, respite care, palliative care and day care for people aged 65 and over.

What care do you offer?

Residential Care - Daily living support for older people who can no longer safely manage at home. This includes help with washing, dressing, meals and medication, delivered with warmth and dignity.

Dementia Care - Specialist support for people living with mild to moderate dementia, focused on familiarity, routine and gentle reassurance in a calm, understanding environment.

Respite Care - Short-term stays that give family carers a planned break whilst their loved one receives the same quality care we provide to permanent residents.

Palliative Care - Compassionate end-of-life care that honours dignity and comfort, with flexibility for families to be present whenever needed.

Day Care - Company, activities and meals during daytime hours for older people who live at home but would benefit from routine, socialization and support.

Parkinson's & Stroke Care - Specialist support for people living with Parkinson's disease or recovering from stroke, delivered by experienced staff who understand these conditions.

How much does it cost?

Our weekly fees start from £1,200 for a single room. If you share a double room, prices start from £900 each. The exact cost depends on individual care needs.

We're happy to provide a detailed, personalized quote once we understand someone's situation and requirements. There are no hidden costs—we'll explain clearly what's included and any additional charges that might apply.

Fees can be paid privately (self-funded), through local authority support if eligible, or a combination of both (top-up arrangements). We'll guide you through the options that apply to your situation.

What funding and support is available for the care you offer?

Several funding options may be available:

Self-funding (Private) - Paying for care yourself using savings, property sale proceeds, pensions or other income.

Local Authority Funding - If someone's assets are below the threshold (currently £23,250), the local authority may contribute towards care costs following a needs assessment.

Top-up Arrangements - Where local authority funding doesn't cover our full fees, family members can make up the difference through a top-up agreement.

NHS Continuing Healthcare (CHC) - If someone has significant ongoing healthcare needs, they may qualify for fully-funded NHS care. This requires assessment by healthcare professionals.

Attendance Allowance - A benefit for people over State Pension age who need help with personal care. This can contribute towards care costs.

The funding landscape can feel overwhelming, but we'll explain your options clearly and help you understand what applies to your situation. Bolton Metropolitan Borough Council can also provide guidance through their adult social care team.
